Attractive hotel for adults with a hip atmosphere
Although the Axel Beach considers itself “hetero-friendly,” it caters mostly to gay couples and groups of friends.
Large color photos of groups of men in the pool or working out at the gym line the entrance wall, and a rainbow flag flutters in the sea breeze by the door.
There are occasional hopping pool parties and DJ sessions, but the atmosphere at this adults-only hotel is relaxed and rustic.
With lounge music on the terrace, sunbeds dotted around the grounds and a small whirlpool in a separate area outside the main pool.
Great hotel
The hotel has a sexy, stylish feel throughout, but it’s hard to tell from the modest lobby that’s adorned with concrete floors, a dark, boxy reception area, and a simple white table with fruit-soaked water. But beyond the glass doors that open onto the gardens, the atmosphere becomes hipper.
Sleek cocoon-style sun loungers with accent cushions are inviting and romantic, and a small pavilion with blinds for privacy offers outdoor massages.
Outside of the gardens, the pool deck has a playful décor in a dark grey and yellow colour scheme. This dark palette carries over to other communal areas, including the gym, breakfast room, and spa, creating stylish, contemporary spaces.
Spacious one-bedroom apartments with kitchenettes and furnished balconies

The hotel has 92 one-bedroom apartments, finished with dark walls and sleek charcoal and warm wood colours. The appearance is cleaner and sharper than many of the other mid-range and upper-mid-range hotels in the area, making for a refreshing addition to the area in terms of style.
Furniture has an almost Scandinavian retro vibe. Each room has a separate living area, a kitchenette and a balcony with a wooden table, three chairs and a drying rack. Basic bedrooms have two single beds pushed together, ceiling fans and simple wooden headboards, but little else.
All rooms feature a small kitchenette with hotplates, microwaves, coffee makers, toasters and mini-fridges. The colorful tilework brightens things up a bit.

A relaxing pool deck, bar and restaurant, spa, and fitness center
The centerpiece of Axel Beach Apartments is the large L-shaped swimming pool. The deck that surrounds it is spacious and attractive, with a few dozen sun loungers, round cushioned sunbeds, and a plunge pool.
There’s soft lounge music throughout the day and the occasional pool party or DJ session, but the atmosphere is generally mellow and relaxing.
There are also several quieter spots for those who want to get away from it all, including a small area complete with a hot tub and a handful of sun loungers and a few other sunbeds dotted around the gardens.
The pool bar offers drinks and a few snacks, and the restaurant serves a varied breakfast of cold and hot dishes.
Light bites for lunch and dinner are also available on-site, but they get mixed reviews. Both the bar and restaurant have outdoor seating by the pool.
The spa
The spa has a number of treatment rooms, a sauna and a steam room, and there is an additional massage pavilion in the garden. Free outdoor stretching classes are offered every morning, and there is a tennis court that guests can reserve free of charge.
There is also a fully equipped fitness center with cardio and strength training machines and plenty of natural light. And for those who love it, a tennis court.

Central location near nightlife and restaurants
The hotel is located on a busy road lined with hotels, residential buildings and a few local businesses in the centre of bustling Playa del Ingles.
There are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants within a few blocks, and Yumbo Centrum, a shopping centre with several popular nightclubs (including most of the area’s gay clubs), is less than a 10-minute walk away.
However, the beach is a 20-minute walk away, and most guests choose to drive or take a taxi. It is a five-minute drive to the beach by car.
Those looking for a quieter atmosphere can drive to the Meloneras and Maspalomas promenades, where a few quieter restaurants and cafes can be found in about 10 minutes. The airport is a 20-minute drive from the hotel.
