Mirador del Balcón
2026-01-24Mirador del Balcón & Andén Verde: Gran Canaria’s Spectacular West-Coast Viewpoints
Discover one of Gran Canaria’s wildest coastal landscapes: dramatic cliffs, Atlantic Ocean views, volcanic ridges and unforgettable sunsets near La Aldea de San Nicolás and the Tamadaba area.
🌊 Wild West Coast of Gran Canaria
Mirador del Balcón sits near La Aldea de San Nicolás on Gran Canaria’s rugged west coast. Far from the busiest tourist resorts, this area is known for steep volcanic cliffs and immense views across the Atlantic.
📸 Why Visit?
Come for the coastal panorama, dramatic rock formations and photography. On clear days the horizon seems endless, while late afternoon can produce spectacular light over the ocean.
Mirador del Balcón – Above the Atlantic
The modern viewpoint gives visitors a dramatic perspective over the cliffs and ocean. Glass panels make the view feel even more open, with the mountains dropping steeply towards the Atlantic below.
The serrated volcanic coastline is sometimes compared to a dragon’s tail when seen from this angle.

The viewpoint is on the western side of Gran Canaria, near La Aldea de San Nicolás and the GC-200. Official Gran Canaria tourism material places Mirador del Balcón on the scenic route between La Aldea and the Andén Verde area.
From Agaete / the North
Follow the signed road network towards La Aldea de San Nicolás and Mirador del Balcón. The west-coast route is mountainous and winding, so allow plenty of time.
From Maspalomas / the South
Plan it as a scenic west-coast road trip via the La Aldea area. Check current navigation and road conditions before departure, as mountain-road access can change.
Andén Verde – The Wilder Side
The Andén Verde area offers a much rawer impression of Gran Canaria’s west coast, with enormous cliffs and sweeping views toward the ocean and Agaete.
Older roadside areas and tracks may not have modern barriers or visitor facilities. Treat this as wild mountain terrain rather than a maintained tourist attraction.
Can You See Tenerife?
In very clear conditions, the open Atlantic horizon can reveal distant island scenery. Visibility changes with cloud, haze and weather, so consider a clear day a bonus rather than a guarantee.

A Different Gran Canaria
Beyond Maspalomas and Playa del Inglés, the west coast feels remote and rugged. Mirador del Balcón is an ideal stop for travellers who want to experience the island’s volcanic scenery as well as its beaches.
🚗 Rent a Car for the West Coast
A car gives you the most flexibility for Mirador del Balcón and the remote west coast. It also makes it easier to combine the viewpoint with La Aldea de San Nicolás, Agaete and other scenic stops.
Do not rely on a bus dropping you directly at the viewpoint. Check the current route and road conditions before setting off.
