2026-01-24Mirador del Balcón & Andén Verde: Gran Canaria’s Most Spectacular Coastal Viewpoints
If you’re looking for one of the most dramatic and unforgettable viewpoints in Gran Canaria, Mirador del Balcón should be high on your list.
Also known as El Paso Marinero or Andén Verde, this breathtaking lookout sits on the steep cliffs of the island’s wild west coast, near La Aldea de San Nicolás, on the edge of the Tamadaba Natural Park.
Far from the busy tourist areas, this hidden gem rewards visitors with jaw-dropping ocean views, rugged volcanic landscapes, and sunsets you won’t forget.
Perfect for adventurous travelers, photographers, and anyone who loves discovering the raw side of Gran Canaria.
Mirador del Balcón: A Modern Viewpoint Above the Atlantic
In 2021, Mirador del Balcón was completely renovated and transformed into a modern glass viewing platform.

Today, you’ll find a sleek walkway surrounded by glass panels, offering dizzying views straight down to the Atlantic Ocean hundreds of meters below.
Standing here feels almost unreal — the cliffs plunge dramatically into the sea, and the volcanic rock formations stretch endlessly along the coast.
Many visitors say the mountain ridges resemble the tail of a dragon, especially when viewed from this angle.

Where Is Mirador del Balcón?
Mirador del Balcón is located just outside La Aldea de San Nicolás, along the old coastal road that once connected La Aldea with Agaete.
How to Get There
- Drive from Agaete towards La Aldea de San Nicolás
- Follow the signs or Google Maps directions for Mirador del Balcón
- The viewpoint is reached before entering La Aldea
The drive itself is an experience — stunning ocean views, dramatic cliffs, and endless curves.
However, the road is very winding, so if you’re traveling with children or are prone to motion sickness, it’s best to:
- Keep windows slightly open
- Avoid looking at your phone
- Focus on the road and the horizon

Andén Verde: The Old, Abandoned Viewpoint
Not far from Mirador del Balcón, you’ll also find the old Andén Verde viewpoint, which offers a completely different — and more adventurous — experience.

To reach it:
- Take the same road from Agaete to La Aldea
- Follow the detour marked “Finca Tirma”
- Continue along this dead-end road
- Pass a green gate to reach the viewpoint
⚠️ Important: This viewpoint is abandoned and has no safety barriers on some point .
The drop in front of you is sheer cliff, so extreme caution is essential.
That said, the reward is incredible.
From here, you’ll enjoy panoramic views over Agaete, the untouched coastline of La Aldea, and one of the most unspoiled landscapes on the island.
This spot feels wild, remote, and completely disconnected from modern life.
