The Maspalomas dune field stretches between Playa del Inglés and Maspalomas on the southern coast of Gran Canaria.
The best-known access point from Playa del Inglés is near RIU Palace Maspalomas and the Mirador de las Dunas.
From the other direction, visitors can begin at the Maspalomas Lighthouse and walk along the coastline towards the gay beach.
Because the dunes move naturally with the wind, paths, vegetation and recognisable landmarks may look slightly different from one visit to another.

How to Get There
There are two main ways most visitors reach the area. Which one is easiest depends on whether you are staying closer to Playa del Inglés or Maspalomas.
From Playa del Inglés / RIU Palace
For visitors staying around Playa del Inglés this is generally the most recognisable route.
- Walk towards RIU Palace Maspalomas.
- Find the Mirador de las Dunas viewpoint.
- Use the recognised access into the dune area.
- Follow marked or established walking routes.
- Continue generally in the direction of the Atlantic Ocean.
- The beach and kiosk areas are located along the coastline.

From Maspalomas Lighthouse
This route avoids crossing the main dune field and instead follows the beach.
- Start at Faro de Maspalomas.
- Walk along the shoreline towards Playa del Inglés.
- Continue past the different beach sectors.
- Follow the coastline towards the gay beach area.
- The dunes remain on the inland side of the beach.

Gay Beach Maspalomas – Kiosk 5, 6 & the Traditional Kiosk 7 Area
For many years visitors referred to the main LGBTQ+ section of Maspalomas Beach simply as “the gay beach at Kiosk 7”.
The exact kiosk numbering and beach operation have changed over the years, so newer local guides also describe the main gay men’s beach as being around Kiosks 5 and 6.
If somebody on the island still tells you to go to “Kiosk 7”, they are usually talking about this same wider gay beach zone along the Maspalomas coastline.
It is a popular place for sunbathing, swimming, meeting people and spending the afternoon before heading back to Playa del Inglés for the evening.

The landscape is constantly changing, so the photographs below should be used as orientation rather than as exact permanent route markers.
Follow recognised paths where possible and keep an eye on official signs.
Palm trees and vegetation provide useful visual landmarks, although the surroundings can change.
Distances are deceptive. Walking through loose sand can take longer than expected.
There is very little shade across many parts of the dune landscape.
The Atlantic coastline is one of the easiest reference points for orientation.
Do not rush. Enjoy the landscape and make sure you know how to return.
What Is the Best Time to Visit?
There is no fixed schedule for an outdoor meeting area. How busy it becomes depends on the season, weather, holidays and major LGBTQ+ events on the island.
The afternoon is often the busiest period around the beach and surrounding dune area.
Remember that the sun can be extremely strong, even outside the summer months.
Late afternoon is popular because temperatures become more comfortable while the beach is still active.
It is also a good time to start making your way back before darkness.
Some people visit later, but the dune landscape becomes much harder to navigate once daylight disappears.
If you visit late, know your route and remain aware of your surroundings.
What Should You Bring?
A visit to the dunes can involve considerably more walking than people expect. Prepare for it like a beach walk rather than a short stroll through town.

Gran Canaria receives strong sunshine throughout much of the year. Protect exposed skin.

The Maspalomas Dunes Are a Protected Nature Reserve
The dunes are one of Gran Canaria’s most distinctive natural landscapes and are environmentally sensitive.
That means visitors should never treat the dunes as if they were simply an empty open space.
Access rules can be adjusted to protect sensitive areas, so always follow the signs you see during your actual visit.
Privacy, Consent & Personal Safety
The dune area is public outdoor space and is visited by many different people: walkers, tourists, beach visitors, families and LGBTQ+ travellers.
Always respect other people’s privacy and remember that attention or eye contact does not automatically mean consent. Everyone decides for themselves whether they want contact with another person.

Campo de Golf Maspalomas Meeting Area
The dunes are not the only outdoor meeting area that has traditionally been known within the local gay scene.
Another location sometimes mentioned is near Campo de Golf Maspalomas, towards the roads in the direction of the Camel Safari and dune area.
This is separate from the main beach and dune route. Visitors using a car should park only where legally permitted and avoid blocking roads, entrances or private property.
As with every outdoor location, respect the environment, neighbours and other visitors.
