The dunes between Playa del Inglés and Maspalomas beach have been associated with Gran Canaria’s gay scene for decades. The huge landscape includes sand dunes, vegetation and several official walking routes leading towards the beach.
The easiest starting point from Playa del Inglés is around the Mirador de las Dunas by Riu Palace Maspalomas.

The gay beach is one of the best daytime places to meet other LGBTQ+ visitors. The familiar kiosk numbering has changed over the years, so it is better to follow the current signs rather than relying only on the historic “Kiosk 7” name.
Expect a relaxed beach atmosphere with a large international crowd, especially during Pride weeks and the winter season.

A lesser-known Maspalomas access point on the western side of the dunes, close to the golf course and camel safari.

On the south-western side of Campo de Golf Maspalomas, the road towards the camel safari reaches a small parking and turning area close to the nature reserve.
It is also an alternative access point for people walking towards Maspalomas beach and the western side of the dunes. The area is better known among residents than many first-time visitors realise.
Gay Cruising & Meeting Spots Around Gran Canaria
Maspalomas is by far the main destination, but there are several lesser-known beaches and meeting areas elsewhere on the island. These tend to attract more local visitors and can be much quieter than Playa del Inglés.
Playa de La Loma
Playa de La Loma is a secluded rocky nudist beach between the Maspalomas area and Arguineguín. It is one of the better-known alternatives to the busy Maspalomas gay beach and is particularly associated with local visitors.
It is much more rugged than Maspalomas. There are no normal beach facilities and access involves uneven terrain.
Playa de La Laja & Tritón Area
South of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Playa de La Laja has long been known locally as an informal meeting area. The beach and parking area sit just off the main coastal route into the capital.
This is not a tourist gay beach like Maspalomas. Expect a much more local atmosphere and ordinary beach visitors.
Tívoli / Marfea Area
The Tívoli and Marfea area on the southern edge of Las Palmas is another location known among local gay men. It is far removed from the tourist scene around Yumbo and Maspalomas.
It is mainly useful to know about if you are staying in Las Palmas or exploring the island by car.
Salinas de Bañaderos
Visitors staying in the north of Gran Canaria may hear about the rocky coastline around Bañaderos. The area has a naturist tradition and has also been known as an informal meeting area among local men.
This is very different from Maspalomas: rocky coastline, fewer tourists and considerably fewer facilities.
Juncalillo del Sur
The remote coastline around Juncalillo del Sur has occasionally been used as an informal meeting area. It is not a dedicated gay beach and is much quieter than the established locations in Maspalomas.
Visit primarily for the landscape and peace rather than expecting a busy cruising scene.
Bahía de Formas Coast
The quiet coastal landscape between Pozo Izquierdo and Arinaga is another part of Gran Canaria where informal local meeting spots have existed.
It is not comparable with Maspalomas and there is no guarantee of activity. Consider it an additional local point of interest rather than a destination in itself.

Places such as La Loma may have no toilets, bars, lifeguards or easy access. Plan ahead.

Visitors who explore more of Gran Canaria will discover a different, much more local scene. Playa de La Loma near Arguineguín is one of the best-known alternatives in the south-west. Around Las Palmas, places such as La Laja and the Tívoli area have historically been known as informal meeting points.
On the north coast, Bañaderos provides a more rugged, local seaside setting. The south-east also contains remote coastal areas, but these are considerably quieter and should not be compared with the established gay scene in Maspalomas.
Where Is the Best Area to Stay?
For a first gay holiday in Gran Canaria, Playa del Inglés or Maspalomas remains the easiest choice. You can reach Yumbo nightlife, the dunes, gay beach, cruising venues and gay-friendly accommodation without travelling across the island every day.
Las Palmas is a better choice if you prefer city life, Las Canteras beach and a more local atmosphere. Renting a car makes exploring the quieter north, west and south-east of Gran Canaria much easier.
